Temporary tank decommissioning

In some instances temporary decommission is required:

  • To isolate sections of pipework from the storage tank during repairs;

  • Where the site is left unoccupied and the future of the site is still to be determined.

Using one of our petroleum regulated tankers we are able to uplift and dispose of tank residues.

After the tank has been emptied we can then proceed to:

  • Water fill the tank to capacity which totally inerts the tank.

It is also advisable to fill the tank chamber with sand and to place a concrete screed over the manhole chamber to provide a level of security. The time limit for temporary decommission with water for this can vary from authority to authority but generally is between 6 – 12 months. We suggest you contact your licensing officer before embarking on this route.
